Have you started a new hobby? Started learning a new language? Started baking bread? Have you scrolled for hours on end on instagram? Have you, by chance, binge watched Tiger King on Netflix? Me too.
As much as we try to occupy ourselves in the quarantine, sometimes we just need to escape and feel like we’re not prisoners in our own homes, and in other cases, others’ homes. Help! Here are a few things that are free and waste free that you can do to beat the boredom!
Connect with Friends
I recently had a wonderful video reunion with friends from college, and it was such a wonderful and uplifting time. The biggest takeaway is that we’re all in a similar boat. We’re all uncertain about what the future holds, but we’ve got friends to support us through all the time to come. Reach out to people even if it has been a while since you spoke. There’s never been a better time to reconnect.
Watch Something Online (besides Netflix)
I’m sure you’ve already seen that celebrities everywhere have been streaming mini concerts from their homes. Check out Pink honing her piano skills while singing us “To Make You Feel My Love.” If you want to get some club vibes check out Diplo’s post here. If you’re feeling like a patron of the arts, head on over to the Metropolitan Opera where they’re streaming shows nightly!
If you’re looking to support some of the community venues, check with your local theatre or cinema to see if they are streaming movies like Cleveland Cinemas. I think moving to a streaming service is such an incredible adaptation for something we only thought of as being in a set location.
This also goes for learning! My parents have a training center, Artemis Defense Institute, and they have switched things up and provided live courses online since social distancing just wont do in their limited classroom space. I am so incredibly proud of them for going with the flow and learning how to provide knowledge in such a short amount of time.
Board Game Night
Sometimes you need to completely disconnect from your digital life, and that’s just fine. Pull out those dusty games and have some fun reconnecting with people you live with! Even if they’re not in the house you could probably play a great game of Battleship via facetime. At least you’ll know they’re 100% not peeking!
Organize & Purge
If you’ve read some of my posts in the past you already know I’m obsessed with Marie Kondo. I’ve purged plenty of my wardrobe and kept the pieces that spark joy. Take the time to do the same with other things in life including any electronics. I’ve gone down to inbox 0! I’ve been sorting through apps on my phone and deleting any of them that I don’t use anymore. I’ve started deleting photos from my phone that are blurry and moving others to albums for easy finding.
Get Cooking
This is an easy one, mainly because we’re stuck at home and we have to feed ourselves (amirite?!). I see everyone baking bread that looks Mary Berry approved. Dalgona Coffee has blown up, and let me just say that the hype is real. It’s so tasty, and I may never return to a coffee shop after the quarantine again. I’m seeing so many people finally getting to do the hobbies they always wanted to do, and I think it’s been the best part of the coronavirus along with all the human connection. Let me know what other recipes have been hits!
Happy quarantining, y’all!
